Can someone please explain to me centripetal force?

OpenStudy (ujjwal):

Centripetal force is the force necessary to keep an object moving in a circular track. We know a force produces acceleration and so, centripetal force also produces acceleration by changing the direction of velocity at every instant in circular motion.

Ok thanks. Could you explain how gravity affects this?

OpenStudy (ujjwal):

I don't get your question? why would gravity affect centripetal force? yeah earth's gravity provides the necessary centripetal force to every object that revolves around it including artificial satellites and moon. The sun's gravity provides centripetal force to planets revolving around it.
