tThe sides of a quadrilateral are 3, 4, 5, and 6. Find the length of the shortest side of a similar quadrilateral whose area is 9 times as great.

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

the ratio of areas is 1:9 in area ratios is the square of the linear measurement (1)^2:(3)^2 gives 1:9 the the 4 measurements have been tripled to increase the area by 9 then shortest measurement 3 x 3 = 9 units long the other sides 4 x 3 = 12, 5, x 3 = 15 and 6 x 3 = 18 hope this helps
