What is the directrix for the following graph?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y = 1 x = -1 x = 1 y = -1

OpenStudy (mertsj):

I don't understand the question. They show the directrix in the picture.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

It's that dotted vertical line to the left of the parabola.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would it be y = 1?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Vertical lines have equations that say x = some number

OpenStudy (mertsj):

And since it is to the left of the origin, I don't think x could be positive.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so x=-1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, it's x = -1. the dashed line is the directrix. VUX - vertical line, undefined slope, x=a number.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanksssss
