Western Community College is starting a fund raising project. A local corporation has agreed to match 40% of what the college raises. If the goal is to raise a total of at least $500000, how much will the school need to raise on its own? a. The school needs to raise no more than $357142. b. The school needs to raise at least $200000. c. The school needs to raise $357142. d. The school needs to raise at least $357143.

500,000=x+(.40x) can you finish this?

OpenStudy (btaylor):

Solve for the amount that they need to raise by doing 500,000=1.40x x = 357142. That eliminates b. Then, if you want to raise more than 500000, you can't raise less than $357142, or even exactly $357142. You raise more, and you get more. Does it make sense?
