Add 632base 8 + 46base 8 in the octal system (leave off the notation of base 8 in your answer).
Hint: add the digits just like you would with any base 10 number, but keep in mind that 6+2 = 10 in base 8
ok here goes nothing
tell me what you get
is 117 correct for 632
no need to convert as the numbers are already in base 8
just add the numbers like normal, but keep that exception in mind
I'm trying to follow this book do you know how hard it is to learn math online argh
im sorry
it's fine, the book is converting 632 base 8 to some number in base 10 correct?
not sure I'm trying to follow to answer the top question so i was trying to figure them out separately then add
you can go that route, but since the answer is in base 8, why not stay in base 8?
Here's how you count in base 8: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, ... Notice how 8 is NOT in the list. This is because the "8" is really "10"
think I'm getting 5,8 and 10 AFU
AFU? And how are you getting 5,8, and 10?
no I'm saying I'm confusing bases 5, 8, 10 all jumbled in my brain
ah gotcha
|dw:1339370467626:dw| this is wrong or I'm totally screwing this up
