Ok so if a ball was thrown out horizontally in the y direction of a car that was moving in the x direction (neglecting air resistance) what would be the moition of the ball from the perpective of an observer standing outside the car?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am told that the ball has constant velocity in both the x and y directions, and also falls under gravity in the z direction. could somone explain to me what that means in simple terms? im finding it hard to grasp the concept....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the resultant of the velocity in the x- direction & that in the y-direction is a velocity in the XY-plane (see attachments). So it is as good as just throwing the ball horizontally. A person outside would see it describing a half parabola.

consider a square with the upper plane as xy plane.and see the figure to understand.
