What is the slope of the line passing through the point (4, -2) and perpendicular to the line y = 4x + 2? Write your answer as a fraction

OpenStudy (btaylor):

if you just want the slope, that is easy. The slope of a perpendicular line is always equal to the negative reciprocal of the original slope. So here, it is -1/4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A perpendicular line has a slope that is the negative reciprocal of the other line. x --> 1/-x
