OpenStudy (ledah):

Factor x^2 - 6x + 8

myininaya (myininaya):

Hey! We want to find two factors of 8 that add up to be 6.

myininaya (myininaya):

Do you know two factors of 8 that add up to be 6?

myininaya (myininaya):

oops -6*

OpenStudy (ledah):

2 and -4

myininaya (myininaya):

well 2(-4) is -8 and 2+(-4) is -2 so that doesn't work try again

myininaya (myininaya):

something*another something=8 something+ another something =-6 ....

OpenStudy (ledah):

not sure...

myininaya (myininaya):

What is (-2)(-4) and (-2)+(-4)?

OpenStudy (ledah):

8 and -6... oh I just missed a second negative sign?

myininaya (myininaya):

Yes! :) Ok so once you find the two factors of 8 that does the trick to satisfy: something*another something=8 something+ another something =-6 Then you plug em into here: (x+? )(x+?) and you are done

myininaya (myininaya):

Do you know what to write in the place of those ?'s

OpenStudy (ledah):

The -2,-4?

myininaya (myininaya):

yes! boo-yah! (x+(-2))(x+(-4)) or you could write (x-2)(x-4) :)

OpenStudy (ledah):

Awesome. thank you
