A punter kicks a football upward with an initial speed of 48 feet per second. After how many seconds does the ball hit the ground? Use the formula h = rt - 16t2 where h represents height in feet and r represents the initial speed.

OpenStudy (btaylor):

so you want to solve for t here: 0 = 48t -16t^2 you can take out a gcf of 16t: 16t(3-t)=0 so h = 0 at t=0 and t = 3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is 0?

OpenStudy (btaylor):

well, I'd put 3 as my answer, because it is pretty obvious that it is on the ground at t=0.
