A new object, object Z, was discovered outside our solar system. Object Z is made of frozen gases that surround a rocky core and it travels in a highly elliptical orbit around the sun. The characteristics of object z most closely resemble those other: A. asteroids B. dwarf planets C. comets D. moons

Sounds to me like a comet. They also have a rocky core and are surrounded by ice and dust particles.

Asteroids: *C-type, includes more than 75% of known asteroids: extremely dark (albedo 0.03); similar to carbonaceous chondrite meteorites; approximately the same chemical composition as the Sun minus hydrogen, helium and other volatiles; *S-type, 17%: relatively bright (albedo .10-.22); metallic nickel-iron mixed with iron- and magnesium-silicates; *M-type, most of the rest: bright (albedo .10-.18); pure nickel-iron. There are also a dozen or so other rare types.

Comets are made of ice and dust, asteroids are made up of rocks and metal.

There are only like 4 dwarf planets. They are so far away and have not really been studied. But I am almost positive they are made up of gas since they are around Jupiter and farther.

Sorry for the multiple posts! I hope I helped! I think it is comets.
