In a garden there are 10 rows and 12 columns of mango trees. The distance between each tree is 2m and distance of 1 m is left from all sides of the boundary of the garden. The length of the garden is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it 24m?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I also calculated the answer as 24 but the Official answer is 22m And I don't know why it is so...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

as there are 12 columns...it means there would be 11 spaces or gaps between 12 trees, and hence length of the garden would be =11*2=22m......

@phani09 , What is then the distance of 1m left for??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey....here the distance of 1m is left from the boundary and the question is to find the length of the garden, not the boundary...

Ya I got your point and thanks you very much...
