OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

When is a species extinct ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When there is none left?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

what if there is one left?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A species becomes extinct when the last existing member dies. A species is considered extinct when no more living members can be found either in captivity or in the wild. http://www.birds.cornell.edu/ivory/08_09stories/ACEextinctionpaper

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then its not extinct! duh?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

what is it called when their are not enough genetics in a species to repopulate

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

say one of the genders has died,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Animals die all the time, sometimes in large numbers. However, at the same time plenty more are being born. Thus, most species offset the death rate with many new births. When a species' equilibrium is thrown off, though, and the death rate eclipses the birth rate, it begins down a slippery slope toward dying out completely. When a plant or animal dies out to the point at which it has no living specimens either in the wild or in captivity, it's considered to be extinct. http://curiosity.discovery.com/question/when-is-species-considered-extinct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

spceies extinct conditions 1)not much avalaibility of food and space 2)changing climate/habitat 3)massive use of hunting of a particular organism 4)if species are kept in only one region not allowing dem to migrate artificially then when any sudden events like earth quakes etc make dem extinct as other areas are not having so it might there conitnuity will be stop..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A species becomes extinct when its existing members die out. This can be because of changing climate/habitat, scarce resources, natural disasters, food chain unbalanced, poaching, and many more tragic things.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a species becomes extinct when one or more members of that species have an unwanted mutation in their DNA or when they cannot sustain the environment they live in hope that helps :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When do you think a species is extinct? think a little (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when they are all dead...

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

what if some dna samples are taken before the population is reduced to zero , the dna is magically/scientifically brought back to life, there is enough samples to restore the population , was the species extinct while it was only dna in a cryogenic fridge stored for a long time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they are classfied as extinct when they are ALL dead.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

when is a specimen dead exactly?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you serious??? you just ask to many questions.

OpenStudy (paxpolaris):

When that theoretical situation becomes a reality ... you create a better word to describe temporary extinctivity ... until then, there is no need

OpenStudy (paxpolaris):

@UncleRhaukus when the last member of a species dies ... and you bring it back to life using CPR a minute later ... was the species extinct?

OpenStudy (paxpolaris):

for 1 minute?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they become extinct when the last member of the particular species die in affect to self or environmental problem faced by them.
