Please help me check my answer. Five gallons of light green latex paint that is 20% yellow paint are combined with a darker green latex that is 40% yellow paint. How many gallons of the darker green paint must be used to create a green paint that is 25% yellow paint?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

x= gallons of dark green .20(5)+.40x=.25(x+5)

OpenStudy (mertsj):

1+.4x=.25x+1.25 .15x=.25 x=1.67 gallons of 1 2/3 gallons

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My answer then is wrong

OpenStudy (mertsj):

What did you get and how did you get it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What I did is .20(5)+.40(5)=.25(x+5) thanks for help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mine is 7

OpenStudy (mertsj):

No. That could not be right because there are not 5 gallons of dark green paint.
