suppose y varies directly with x.If y=3 when x=2 find y when x=3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think for these you are supposed to write \(y=kx\) and then substitute to solve for \(k\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea but i never know how to do it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in other words you know \(y=kx\) and you are told if \(x=2\) then \(y=3\) so you solve \[3=k\times 2\] and get \[k=\frac{3}{2}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so your variation looks like \[y=\frac{3}{2}x\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then replace \(x\) by 3 to get your answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does that seem right?

s0 its 9/2
