@ParthKohli is absolutely correct. Calling the new group "Geography and Earth Science" was suggested and apparently it slipped their mind. I am sorry for the confusion. :)

i thought geography was the study of the placement of the countries and such? I think it should be called Geography and Geology then!! it has a nicer ring ;) lol

"Geography and Geology" sounds nice but geology limits it to the study of rocks. Earth science covers a lot more than that: oceanography, soil science, climate science... that list is quite long.

And yes, geography includes the placement and naming of countries, rivers, etc., as well as their role in history. But the placement of countries are to a surprising extent determined by features of the natural world.
