What did I do wrong?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the 2nd picture is the diagram ignore the highlights.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

looks like \(3x-8=x+20\)?

OpenStudy (radar):

You have set up an incorrect formula. (3x-8) +(x=20) does not equal 180 degree

OpenStudy (radar):

(3x-8)+(x+20)+<F=180 degree

OpenStudy (radar):

Since AF = DF you can state that Angle A = Angle D so you can state. 3x-8=x+20 2x=28 x=14 degrees so that would mean Angle=3(14) - 8=42-8=34 degrees (angle A) x+20= 14+20 =34 Angle D

OpenStudy (radar):

Did you follow that with understanding?

OpenStudy (radar):

Do you know why Angle A = Angle D?

OpenStudy (radar):

What you really did wrong was to leave this question before a dialogue regarding your understanding of the problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Waiittt... whoah.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Where did <F come from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OH I UNDERSTAND. Thank you so much for your time @radar thank you thank you!

OpenStudy (radar):

You are most welcome. Glad you now understand. Understanding the flaw in your original equation, and understanging that those two angles were equal. It is obvious you have a good understanding of algebra, good luck.
