the sum of an interger and its reciprocal is 37/6 ... how do u find this?

OpenStudy (pfenn1):

Let x be the integer, the reciprocal will be 1/x so the sum will be\[x + \frac1x = \frac{37}{6}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i get the integer?

OpenStudy (pfenn1):

Rearrange the equation to solve for x.

6 is the integer. since you are adding reciprocal to the number, the integer is nothing but the integer you get when you do 37/6. got it ?
