i know the formula and everything but i dont actually know how to set up this problem: Use the formula to evaluate the series 3+6+12+24+48+96... i just need help setting it up

Parth (parthkohli):

Do you know the formula of a geometric series?

Parth (parthkohli):

\( \color{Black}{\Rightarrow \Large S = a({1 - r^n \over 1 - r}) }\)

OpenStudy (aravindg):

yep use that! the given series is a gp with r=2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i do i just dont know where to plug in the numbers

Parth (parthkohli):

\(a\) is the first term. \(r\) is the ratio(common ratio). \(n\) is the number of terms.

Parth (parthkohli):

The first term here is....?

OpenStudy (aravindg):

......

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok well how do i get the ratio

OpenStudy (aravindg):

b/a=r

Parth (parthkohli):

The ratio is the division of \(a_n\) and \(a_{n - 1}\)

OpenStudy (aravindg):

2nd term/first term= ratio

Parth (parthkohli):

Aravnd already told you the ratio.

OpenStudy (aravindg):

yep

Parth (parthkohli):

Aravind*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks guys again!!

Parth (parthkohli):

yw jim :D
