What enables archaebacteria to live in extreme environments?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't really study bacteria that much details so i might make some mistakes here. archeal membrane lipid is different from eukaryotes and bacteria. The lipid lacks head groups, has tepene alcohol side chain, and the non-polar chain joins to glycerol by ether bond. this allow lipids to resist hydrolysis and oxidation in extreme conditions. i hope this helps.

Oh. :) Thanks :D And, so in this way, temperature variance does't affect the metabolism happening inside?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

basically there won't be much effect since they are adapted for extreme conditions. But if is cold environment, then it'll be different story.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and what IS the story? :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

enzyme become inactive in cold conditions
