What was MacArthur's strategy to break out of the Pusan Perimeter and how did it work?
I need to finish two HIstory units for my online classes by sunday so any help would ne great! thank you so much
South Korean forces and American soldiers were pushed to and seemingly trapped in a southeastern corner of the Korean Peninsula after the North Korean forces nearly crushed them. To relieve them. General MacArthur came up with a daring plan to land soldiers at the port of Inchon, far to the northwest and well behind enemy lines, in a huge amphibious operation. It was highly dangerous in that it took place far behind enemy lines, but if successful, would threaten North Korean lines of supply and put US forces within striking distance of the South Korean capital of Seoul which was currently in North Korean hands. The plan worked surprising North Korean forces from behind and proved to be one of the most decisive battles in the Korean War. It allowed the trapped forces at Pusan to break out as North Korean forces were forced to fall back to defend their lines and consolidate their forces as well as prevent the recapture of Seoul which failed. After Inchon, the tide turned against North Korea...but it wasn't quite over yet.
Thank you so much!
