michael bought a lawn mower at 30% off for $357, what was the original price of the lawn mower?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$357 x . 30 = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That was what I was thinking but over thought it lol and got myself all turned around and confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the 30% would be 107.10 and the total price would be 464.10? if I didn't lose my way again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes :) Good job!

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

x = 357 + .3x can you solve now ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks guess I just needed the assurance that I was going the right way with it lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah haha that always helps :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes ganeshie :) I got it now thanks so much for the help :)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

answer is 510.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

@mkeippel use this solution: let o = original price o * 0. 70 = 357 original price = \(\frac{357}{0.70}\) you don't multiply by 0.3

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

therefore the answer is NOT 464.10!! it's 510 like @ganeshie8 said :(
