If you take -1, and you take away another 2 from it to get -3, would -3 be less then or greater than -1? Seeing as something was taken away (subtracted) from it.

Hmm. Not quite. When I subtract from something, I am making it smaller. I need to subtract from -1 to get -3. So, -3 is greater than or smaller than -1?
