the magna carta was written due to what situation
To ensure the basic rights of peasants back in the middle ages. It grants them the right to own property, not getting randomly slaughtered by the men of higher social status, and such.
oh thanks!(:
And they wanted to have a limited monarchy too..to reduce the kings power. and give parliament more power.
Heavens, no. In the first place, Magna Carta was forced on King John of England in 1215 by a group of his barons, and it was designed to limit the powers of the king over his noble subjects, themselves. To the extent it protected the liberty and rights of their peasants, that would be incidental, since the latter were generally dependent on the mercy of their lord anyway. It would protect them from the king, I suppose, if their lord's will did not coincide with the king's. The circumstances were a rebellion against King John by his barons in 1215, probably provoked by the humiliating defeat of the English, German and Flemish forces by the French at the Battle of Bouvines in 1214, which ended the aspirations of the English barons to control land in Normandy and Brittany (the northermost parts of continential France). Since King John led the barons into this battle, the loss made him extremely unpopular.
omg thanks for the help!
