what's the difference between backward and forward induced emf and current????

OpenStudy (kropot72):

A back emf arises in an inductance because of the rate of change of current. Flux cutting the windings of an electric motor causes a back emf. Polarisation in a primary cell causes a back emf. Charging of a secondary cell causes a back emf. A back emf opposes the 'forward' emf from a power source.

at the moment of inserting a magnet into a coil and at the moment of switching on the circuit or increasing the current......is that forward or backward???
