I think Euclids theorem may help...but i dont remember it :S

for x, solve the ratio: 27/x = x/3 for y, solve the ratio: y/27 = 30/y

just remember that when the altitude of a right triangle is drawn from the right angle to the hypotenuse, is creates two triangles both similar to the original triangle. and because they're similar, you can do this with just solving those ratios...
