OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

there are currently 27 OpenStudy users who are level 99. Five of them are purple. How many ways can they be arranged such that the purples stay in the middle (any order in the middle)?

Parth (parthkohli):

lol

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

it's from my book dont judge ;p

Parth (parthkohli):

Middle?

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

@lgbasallote , go to sleep.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

yeah...middle

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

lol it's quarter to six here...and i fear i shall be missed :p

Parth (parthkohli):

I believe that the answer would be 5! if you want to keep them in the middle

Parth (parthkohli):

What do you mean middle?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

what about the 27 people? o.O

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

i mean they change positions right?

Parth (parthkohli):

If you want to arrange the 5 guys then it'd be 5!

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

nooo the 27 greens will be rearranged

Parth (parthkohli):

And and then 22! too I think

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

but the purples have to stay in the middle in any order

Parth (parthkohli):

5! x 22!

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

it will be just 22!?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you define "middle"? like: Middle = all the purple people together, purple people cant be the first or last one.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

why timeS?

Parth (parthkohli):

We don't add, because there's like 5 factorial combinations for all 22! combinations we can arrange.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

hmm for example green purple green purple ->>>>green that's a possible scenario another could be green purple purple purple green purple ->>>green important thing is the greens stay outside

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

so it will be 5! x 22! ?

Parth (parthkohli):

Yes, I believe.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

but why not just 22! ?

Parth (parthkohli):

Not sure though. Need to ask the geniuses.

Parth (parthkohli):

Because there are 5! ways to arrange the purples :D

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

lol sounds familiar :P

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

"ask the geniuses' haha

OpenStudy (yash2651995):

max number of ways every one can be arranged - number of ways where green stay at the end.. i guess if i understood the question right

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

hmm different formulas...

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

this is an even number in my book so no answer =_=

Parth (parthkohli):

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

LOL

Parth (parthkohli):

I see 6 purples, and twenty-six 99 levellers.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

that means you're over 1 mod and lack 2 greens

Parth (parthkohli):

And if you don't include sat, it's 25.

Parth (parthkohli):

Show me your list, my sir

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

so you lack 3

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

lol just answer the question :p

Parth (parthkohli):

Actually, have you included aroub in the list? Because she ain't 99 any more

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

the data is outdated..

Parth (parthkohli):

I've done whatever I could do.. 5! x 22!

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

this was based on a 2001 census

Parth (parthkohli):

Then no one wouldve been included ;p

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

so 5! x 22! hmm

Parth (parthkohli):

Not sure tho

Parth (parthkohli):

I'm sure you missed JamesJ in your list

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

http://openstudy.com/users/jimmyrep

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

no i missed FoolForMath i forgot him =)) like i said it was outdated...before ffm became mod

Parth (parthkohli):

Oh I included jimmy but couldn't save the file

OpenStudy (yash2651995):

|dw:1339840395348:dw| 25= 5P+20G so this is what "middle" meant to me.. idk what the ques meant.. 25!/(20!x5!) =53 130 ?
