A process equipment contains 100 gallons of water at 25degree Celsius. It is required to bring it to boiling in 10minutes. The heat loss is estimated to be 5%. What is the kW rating of the heater?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1gallon=? liters?

OpenStudy (marco26):

I converted the gallons to cubic meter and multiply it by the density of water to get the mass. Then I used Q=mc(deltaT) + mLv Is that right? or only Q=mc(delta T)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

only q=mc(deltaT).

OpenStudy (marco26):

why?

OpenStudy (marco26):

and what does it mean by heat loss?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you only need the water to reach the boiling point. You don't want steam

OpenStudy (anonymous):

energy required=q+5%q

OpenStudy (marco26):

Thanks @rajathsbhat

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm assuming you know how to find the power rating...

OpenStudy (marco26):

yes
