I will give you one but you will have to figure out the rest. The mutual defense alliances was a huge cause because if one country was attacked, the other country that its allied with would jump in and defend them. This made it worse because a war between two countries would then turn into six because they want to defend each other.

The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was the immediate cause of WW1. However, the major cause was the growth of militarism in the nations of Europe.

One of the main reasons was the partition of Africa which increased the discontentment of some countries that didn't get what they wanted.
