OpenStudy (moongazer):

How do you convert DMS to degree measure?

OpenStudy (moongazer):

anyone?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

there 60 minutes in a degree and 60 seconds in a minute 15' = 16/60 = 0.25 degree - divide mints by 60 to give decimal form of degree for seconds divide by 360 15' 30" = 15/60 + 30/360 = 0.25 + 0.083 = 0.333 degrees

myininaya (myininaya):

\[D^oM'S''=(D+\frac{M}{60}+\frac{S}{60^2})^o\]

OpenStudy (moongazer):

how did you get that formula @myininaya why is it working?

OpenStudy (moongazer):

could someone explain?

myininaya (myininaya):

Because 60 minutes = 1 degree Because 60^2 seconds=1 degree

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

yes - myin translated what i said into the formula

OpenStudy (moongazer):

Thanks to both of you :)

myininaya (myininaya):

except 60^2=3600 :)

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

oh yes - 60^2 is not 360!!!!

OpenStudy (cwrw238):
