Jack is standing next to a monument in the city square. His shadow is 18 feet long. The shadow of the monument is 150 feet long. If Jack is 6 feet tall, how tall is the monument? 25 feet 50 feet 75 feet 450 feet

OpenStudy (btaylor):

make a proportion: \[\frac{6}{18} = \frac{x}{150}\] now solve for x. You should get x = 50 feet

Jack is 6 feet his shadow is 18 His shadow is 3x longer than him So since the monument is 150 feet long all you have to do is multiply 150 x 3= 450 feet tall

OpenStudy (btaylor):

@aussy123 It says the building's shadow is 150 ft long, not the building is 150 ft tall

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea thanks I forgot to put the shadow of the monument...thx for pointing that out
