Find the vertex of the parabola formed by the following quadratic function: y=2x^2=8x+2 a.)(-4,66) b.)(4,2) c.)(-2,26) d.)(2,6)

OpenStudy (eyust707):

using algebra or calculus?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

algebra

OpenStudy (eyust707):

okay so basically we have formula that comes form the quadratic equation

OpenStudy (eyust707):

it says: the x coordinate of the vertex = -b/2a

OpenStudy (eyust707):

do you know what the vertex is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, that's the problem

OpenStudy (eyust707):

hehe its okay its actually really easy once someone explains it

OpenStudy (eyust707):

so basically this part "y=2x^2=8x+2" is a function. If we punch in numbers (x's), it punches out different numbers (y's).

OpenStudy (eyust707):

and when we put those numbers on an x y graph it looks like this

OpenStudy (eyust707):

correction: y=2x^2+8x+2

OpenStudy (eyust707):

this one is a happy face.. its vertex is the point all the way at the bottom
