Line segment ACB. Coordinates for A are 5, 5 and C are 1, 4. If point C is the midpoint of AB , what is the coordinate of point B?
You know the midpoint formula?
yes but everytime i do it what i come out with are not the answers given
you have choices?
yes do you want to see them?
I prefer surprise, lol what I'd rather see is how you applied the midpoint formula could you show me how you used it?
i did 5 plus 1 then 5 plus 4
and then divided them by 2?
yup and it comes out wrong but if i subtract the right answer option is given
ok, here's the problem if you think the answer is (3, 4.5) then it would really be wrong because what you just computer for is the midpoint between A and C
*computed
yeah thats what i get so wait what do yu do
Well, first, let the coordinates of B be (x, y)
you know for a fact that C is the midpoint of A and B, right?
right
so, C must be the result if you apply the midpoint formula for A and B, right?
so wait what would the equation look like
well, if the coordinates for B would be (x, y), then applying the midpoint formula (5 + x)/2 = 1 and (5 + y)/2 = 4 Do you know why these are?
