I think the answer is e (by elimination) but how do you do this problem numerically?

yes, x=20
from triangle on other side --> 15^2 - 12^2 = 9^2
the base is length 9

9+7 = 16 and 32-16 = 16
thus base of triangle with hypotenuse of x is 16
12^2 + 16^2 = 20^2

--> x = 20
