Step 1: Pick a friend or family member to be the character of your word problem. This friend or family member may do one of the following: Drive a boat Drive a jet ski Step 2: Select a current speed of the water in mph. Step 3: Select the number of hours (be reasonable please) that your friend or family member drove the boat or jets ski against the current speed you chose in step 2. Step 4: Select the number of hours that your friend or family member made the same trip with the current (this should be a smaller number, as your friend or family member will be traveling with the current). Step 5: Write out the word problem you created and calculate how fast your friend or family member was traveling in still water. Round your answer to the nearest mph.

anyone want to be my buddy :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha you must go to a private school

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh lol I didn't read character

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so... boat or jet ski :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

jet ski

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok choose a nick name :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Euler

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok how fast should the water be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait wait no Spider man, and 10mph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol ok how long will you be on jet ski?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2 hours

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how long with the current 1hr 30min?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well wouldn't that be what you have to figure out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am just following the steps

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or wait nvm you are figuring out the speed of the jet ski

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah sure why not just 1 to make it easier?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok you save 1 hr

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay well you know it takes you 2 hours with a current of 10mph against you to move a certain distance and you know it takes you 1 hour to go that distance with the current so now you have to figure out the speed of the jet ski

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am going to make it up and say 15mph :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The whole point of the problem is to solve for the answer though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am not a mather
