Hi, I wish to become an embedded hardware and software designer (example : robots). What should I do and where should I start. PS: I know of MIT OCW
Start with Basics of electronics.Buy Transistor,op-amp,resistors, capacitors, encoder ,decoder,breadboard,555 timer,Multiple power supply ,Fet. and Digital multimeter and try some simple circuits at home or college. This will provide you base in electronics. Then go for 8051 Microcontroller..This will provide exposure to assembly ,software (C language)+ Hardware. Then go for mini project ( for ex)-small robot-using DC-motor& wheels-which will sense the circular path.).all the best.
I am assuming that you are either in high school or have gotten out of high school with out being on a college path. I would suggest that in addition to the self study options you look to see if there is a local FIRST robotics team nearby. If you are a adult they you are offering your services as responsible person even if you are not technical, if you are a "kid" you are exactly who they would like to serve. This has two advantages one you learn a little bit of the area you are interested in, two it will get you in contact with people that can help you figure out how to get you from where you are to where you want to be.
