Three friends are playing a board game in which moves are dictated by a spinner that has the numbers 1 through 12 equally distributed. Mariella is hoping to spin a 5 or a 9 on her next turn. Which of the following best describes this situation?

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Do you have choices?

Yes 1 second

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Let's check each of them, shall we? :) Certain events means events that will happen, no matter what I bet your sense tells you that that certainly is not the case with getting a 5 or a 9 Impossible events are events that will not happen, no matter what There is always a chance of getting a 5 or 9, as the spinner is fair, so the events are not impossible. Overlapping events are events that may happen at the same time... you can't get both a 5 and a 9 at the same time, right? So the events are not overlapping. Disjoint events are events that may NOT happen at the same time, that certainly is the case with getting a 5 and getting a 9, right? Disjoint, then :D
