What are the metabolic activities in a plant?

Photosynthesis. It converts sunlight into chemical energy then creating sugars to store, just like a humanwould need body sugars in the blood. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photosynthesis

Yes, you need sunlight to produce sugars. otherwise there wouldnt be a point to photosynthesis.

well you need the sunlight to produce sugars at least in the plant case in photosynthesis.
