(5a^2 – 3a + 7) + (2a^2 + 5a – 1) 5a^2 – 3a + 7 + 2a^2 + 5a – 1 ... remove parenthesis as they're not needed Now combine like terms

Ex: 5a^2 and 2a^2 are like terms. So 5a^2 + 2a^2 = 7a^2
