x^2+y^2=25 4x^2-y^2=20, solve by elimination method. can someone show me step by step how to work this problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x ^{2}+y ^{2}=25\]\[4x ^{2}-y ^{2}=20\]sum both and you get\[5x ^{2}=45\rightarrow x ^{2}=9\]Plug that into the first eq\[9+y ^{2}=25\rightarrow y ^{2}=16\]Thus,\[x=\pm3,y=\pm4\]
