Mathematics 18 Online
OpenStudy (anonymous):

If y varies inversely as x, and y = 3 when x = 6, find the value of x when y = 18 I just need an explanation not the answer!

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

ok.. since y varies inversely as x, we can write y = k/x

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

k is constant

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

now plug in x=3, y = 6 and find the constant k. once we have the value for k, we can use the equation y=k/x , to know either of y or x, if y or x is given... hope it makes sense..
