a hexagon as 6 sides it is a regular hexagon which implies all the sides are the same length 48/6 is the length of one side of the hexagon the hexagon may be divided into six equilateral triangles draw a hexagon and divide it into six triangles.. then since you know that the triangles are equilateral triangles and you know the base of the triangle you can solve for the area of the triangle multiply the area of the triangle by six and you have the area of the hexagon
