Differentiate Between Mendelian and Chromosomal Disorder. Give two examples of each.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont know much about Mendelian Disorders, but a chromosomal disorder can be caused by a nondisjunction in meiosis. Like trisomy 21 (down syndrome)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

another is when a segment is cut off from the tip of the chromosome, it is still present, but separate. it can be diagnosed with a karyotype just like trisomy 21. Like Cat cry syndrome. Dont remember the proper spelling of the proper name.

i remember now. its cru du chat.

OpenStudy (blues):

Mendelian disorders result from a sequence change which affects the phenotype of the organism - usually, but not always, these occur in the coding regions of genes. Chromosomal disorders result from rearrangements of whole chromosomal regions, swapping of chromosome arms, inversions, nasty stuff like that.
