Can someone tell me how you do this. A CD player regularly sells for $80. It is on sale for 20% off. What is the sale price of the CD player?

Ask yourself: "What does 20% mean?"

Meant to say "What does 20% off mean"? In otherwords, it means that they're taking 20% of the original price and reducing the original price by it. price - (.20)(price) = new price Since price can be written as 1 times price: (1)(price)-(.20)(price) = (price)(1-.20) = (price)(.80)
