What's the difference between an ionic and a molecular compound? And what's an ion and a molecule?

An ion is a charged atom - one that has gained or lost electrons. A molecule is any combination of neutral, covalently bonded atoms. An ionic compound is one composed of ions, e.g. NaCl A molecular compound is one composed of molecules, e.g. CH4
