My stats is a little rusty, but:

Null hypotheses is the idea that there is no significant difference: "There is no difference between the old design and new design of recliner chairs."

The Alternative hypotheses is the idea that the Null Hypotheses was wrong and must be rejected: "The new design for recliner chairs is more comfortable than the old design."
