find the general solution of the equation y’ = y/x + x^3y^2 – x^5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the general?

This is a really cool problem and is a form of what is known as the Ricatti equation. The solution to this problem is rather complex, involving two different substitution functions as well as the hyperbolic trig functions. Instead of solving if for you, I encourage you to look into the Ricatti equation, and especially the relation between the complex exponential (e^(ix)) and the hyperbolic trig functions. If you get these down, you shouldn't have a problem with this. Good luck!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure, I need to finish typing a reply to someone else though. Give me like five minutes.
