is the contrapositive the same as negation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, in a contrapositive, you switch the hypothesis and conclusion and negate them. In negation, you simply negate the hypothesis and conclusion. Ex. If it is raining outside, then the playground is wet Contrapositive: If the playground is not wet, then it is not raining outside. Negation: If it is not raining ouside, then the playground is not wet. Notice that the contrapositive is true if the original conditional is true, while the negation may not be.

Isn't the negation of an "if p then q" statement "p and not q"?
