You are 0.5 miles (2 blocks) away from a coffee shop. How fast would you need to be walking (in mph) if you want to get there in 0.1 hours (6 minutes)?

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

ohkay great! so, i need to cover up 0.5 miles, and I have to do that in 0.1hours. Well, the required speed 's' would distance to be covered 'd' divided by time consumed 't'. so, \(\large s = \frac d t\) can you find out the speed from this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where did the 8 come from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

He means to say that speed = distance/time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok. so s= .5/.1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you need it in miles per hour, then yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so speed, it would be 5mph

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

yeah! right correct-o!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you so much! haha. (:

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

take care of the units though, and no worries ;)
