The three Math Idol judges have been eliminating contestants all day! The number of one-step equations and two-step equations who have been eliminated today is equal to 1150. If three times the number of one-step equations minus twice the number of two-step equations is equal to 1300, how many one-step equations auditioned today? 430 720 1150 1300 When I worked it out i got 1300..but i wanted to make sure I was right? ^_^

..? was I right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

call x the one step eqations then this means the 2 steps would just be 3x-2(1150-x)=1300 then just solve for x we get x=720

OpenStudy (anonymous):

see how i did it? i called the one steps X and this means the two steps would just be (1150-x) from there we just say 3 times the one steps (3x) - 2 times the two steps (1150-x) is equal to 1300

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then just solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3x-2(1150-x)=1300? work that out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes that is right, bc we called the 1 steps x so if we solve for x we know how many 1 steps we have

OpenStudy (anonymous):

see the logic??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay...one minute....let me see what I get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 720 :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nice job!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay! Thank You! :)
