What is the value of the x variable in the solution to the following system of equations? 4x + y = 8 x − 2y = 2 0 2 There is no x value as there is no solution to this system x can be any value as there are infinitely many solutions to this system

OpenStudy (shane_b):

Wait..there is a solution. X=2, Y=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=2 because y=0

OpenStudy (shane_b):

Yes, so the answer from the choices is "2"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the value of x is 2? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

teehee thank you guys..! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you find the value of y first by getting x to cancel out, which you do by multiplying the second equation by -4. this will make x cancel out, and also the constant will cancel as well. this leaves you with 8y+y=0. add the y's, divide, and you get 0. substitute 0 into one of the equations, and 2 will be your value for x.
